    Research Interests

    We are primarily interested in complexes of main group metals. Our aim is to exploit the inherent characteristics of the metals for applications in synthesis and catalysis. We want to precisely control the reactivity of the metal complexes by selectively addressing either polar or radical type reaction pathways using knowledge-based ligand- and complex design. To this end, we synthesize ionic and neutral compounds with innocent and non-innocent (i.e., redox-active) ligands. Unusual characteristics in the coordination chemistry and reactivty of these species shall be revealed, rationalized, and expoited in catalytic applications such as C-C bond forming reactions and polymerization reactions.


    For the synthesis of our target compounds, we use inert gas techniques (Schlenk- and glove box techniques). We aim at thoroughly characterizing these compounds both, in solution and in the solid state. This includes analyses by (heteronuclear) NMR spectroscopy, EPR spectroscopy, cyclic voltammetry, single crystal X-ray diffraction, and DFT calculations. Furthermore, we apply standard methods of reaction monitoring and polymer characterization.
